Elementary COUNSELING curriculum
At Underwood, the counselor provides lessons with all kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms once a month.
The Lee’s Summit School Counseling Curriculum includes lessons on learning skills, personal
safety, bully awareness, conflict resolution, friendship skills, and career exploration.
The objectives of the various units are:
● Learning skills: students will learn strategies to be a successful and productive student
● Personal or body safety: students will learn simple, straightforward strategies to protect
themselves from abusive situations
● Bully awareness: students will learn how to identify and deal with bully behaviors
● Mental health first aid (5th grade): promoting well-being, students will learn
how and when to recognize and report concerns about others to appropriate helpers
● Conflict resolution: students will learn problem solving methods
● Friendship skills: students will learn ways to make and maintain friendships
● Career awareness: students will be exposed to a variety of career options
