Hi, I’m Suzanne Truitt and I'm proud to be a School Counselor at Underwood Elementary! I came to Underwood Elementary in the Fall of 2019 and I'm loving it! I'm a graduate of Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri with my BS in Social Work. I also have two Masters degrees. One in Social Work from the University of Missouri-Columbia and the other in School Counseling from Stephens College-Columbia, Missouri. Prior to coming to Underwood, I worked as an elementary school counselor at Belton School District for 5 years and a rural Missouri school for 12 years before that.
I'm married to William and we have to two kids, Will and Savannah. I enjoy spending my free time with them, scrapbooking about them, and knitting. I recently did something that I've always dreamed of. I got a school therapy dog and get to bring him to work with me. The students are absolutely LOVING it!
My professional interests center on helping young students have successful beginning experiences in school. As a school counselor I will work to support students socially and emotionally, academically, and with future career exploration. I provide school-wide activities, classroom lessons, small group instruction, and short-term individual counseling.
Every student who sees me does receive the privilege of confidentiality. However, I will encourage students to share with parents what we have talked about. If there is a major concern, I will contact the parent.
I love being a counselor because I believe solving problems, getting along with others and understanding how to make good choices are skills for LIFE. Most of all, I am so grateful to work with the awesome kids, parents and wonderful teachers & staff at UWE. Please call or e-mail if you have any questions, need assistance or if you’d just like to chat. I’m looking forward to an AMAZING school year at Underwood Elementary!
